The 21 days Russian language winter school 2019 offers participants to master skills in written and oral modern Russian, reading and interpreting Russian texts from different periods as well as rapidly deepening their knowledge in colloquial Russian.

ASPIRANTUM - School of languages and cultures is inviting students, scholars and researchers to apply and take part in second Russian language winter school to be organized from December 1 till December 21, 2019 in Yerevan, Armenia.

The 21 days Russian language winter school 2019 offers participants to master skills in written and oral modern Russian, reading and interpreting Russian texts from different periods as well as rapidly deepening their knowledge in colloquial Russian.

The Russian language winter school offers 60 hours of intensive Russian language classes during 15 days of teaching (from Monday till Friday each week). Every day the participants will receive Russian language instruction for 4 hours. The classes start in the mornings and the schedule is the following:

09:00 - 10:00 - Russian language class
10:00 - 10:10 - Coffee Break
10:10 - 11:10 - Russian language class
11:10 - 11:20 - Coffee Break
11:20 - 12:30 - Russian language class
12:30 - 12:40 - Coffee Break
12:40 - 13:40 - Russian language class (fourth and final class)

During the Russian language winter classes the following components will be covered every day to foster the Russian language knowledge of participants in a rapid pace:

Grammar: Every day class will cover the main grammatical concepts of modern Russian language.

Vocabulary: During the 3 weeks course it is anticipated that the participants will learn around 1000 new Russian words from literary language as well as words used in everyday life.

Listening: The classes are scheduled in a way that participants with the guidance of experienced instructor learn the Russian language through songs and movies as well as watching and listening to news and other short videos about interesting and sometimes funny topics and stories about Russian realities.

Speaking: Every day the Russian language classes will push the students to exercise their speaking abilities through discussions, conversations and interpretations about different texts and topics. As nearly everyone speaks Russian fluently in Yerevan the speaking skills of participants may be advanced during everyday conversations in the streets, shops and other places of Yerevan.

Writing: Each day the participants of the Russian language class will have assignments and homework to complete for the next day. The homework will primarily involve writing assignments and those will be assessed by the teacher and discussed the next day’s Russian language class.

Reading: Every day students will read and discuss political texts, prose and poetry, conversations and news. The corpus of texts to be read and discussed during the classes comprises different prominent Russian authors, daily conversations as well as news of the day.

Levels:

This Russian language school is designed for participants, at least 18 years-old, who want to make well-grounded progress in their knowledge of the Russian language, deepen their knowledge of Russian grammar, colloquial speech and literary language.

The Russian language winter school 2019 will have 1 group of up to 12 participants (previously the ASPIRANTUM Russian language groups have usually had 2-11 students). The participants must have upper elementary, lower intermediate and intermediate level of Russian language knowledge before starting the classes with ASPIRANTUM. We do not offer beginner classes or advanced classes of Russian language. Below are the descriptions of mentioned levels:

1. Upper elementary level (A1-A2) :
You know the alphabet and can read words and expressions sometimes with difficulties; You can write words, expressions and sentences in Russian; You master certain typical phrases in Russian and know how to write them; You barely understand everyday Russian language

2. Lower intermediate level (A2) :
You have a certain amount of difficulty in understanding the Russian language except in very precise situations; You are capable of having a simple conversation in Russian; You understand a simple written text or isolated words in Russian; You still make a lot of mistakes of expressions, vocabulary and grammar

3. Intermediate level (A2-B1) :
You manage to enter into a discussion but do not always find the appropriate turns of phrase in Russian; You manage to express your opinion in Russian and to understand the person you're speaking with; You understand voice recordings (radio, telephone, answering machine, skype, etc.); You have difficulty understanding a person who speaks quickly; You still make pronunciation, grammar and precision mistakes

Our instructor of Russian language has an extensive experience to teach students of mentioned levels in one group in a way, that all students have a rapid growth in their knowledge of Russian language.

Assessment:

Before the classes start the instructor of Russian will send a written test to all confirmed participants as well as will have a video call with all of them to assess their knowledge of Russian prior to the start of the school. By the end of each week an interim exam will be organized and at the end of the school the students will pass a final exam to assess their advancement during the school.

ASPIRANTUM’s Russian language schools are organized in a way that undergraduate and graduate students, researchers and professors as well as anyone interested in learning Russian benefit from it the most. So everyone with upper elementary, lower intermediate and intermediate levels of Russian is welcome to apply and participate in ASPIRANTUM’s Russian language winter school from December 1 till December 21 in Yerevan.

Apply and pay the participation fee by July 15, 2019 and the participation fee will be $1250.
Pay the participation fee by October 30, 2019 and the participation fee will be $1590.

This price includes reading and writing materials, coffee breaks and cultural trips to Garni temple and Geghard Monastery as well as museums in Yerevan, which will transform your stay in Armenia into an unforgettable, academically oriented endeavour.

We will not cover: Accommodation, insurance, breakfast, lunch, dinner, visa costs, travel costs to Armenia, from Armenia and in Armenia, any costs of accompanying friends or family members.
