Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships Program for US students

The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships program provides allocations of academic year and summer fellowships to institutions of higher education or consortia of institutions of higher education to assist meritorious undergraduate students and graduate students undergoing training in modern foreign languages and related area or international studies. Eligible students apply for fellowships directly to an institution that has received an allocation of fellowships from the U.S. Department of Education.

Program Description
The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships program provides allocations of academic year and summer fellowships to institutions of higher education or consortia of institutions of higher education to assist meritorious undergraduate students and graduate students undergoing training in modern foreign languages and related area or international studies. Eligible students apply for fellowships directly to an institution that has received an allocation of fellowships from the U.S. Department of Education.

Types of Projects
FLAS grants (allocations of fellowships) are awarded to institutions for a four-year project period. Institutions conduct competitions to select eligible undergraduate students and graduate students to receive fellowships, in accordance with FLAS program eligibility requirements and the institutions’ FLAS selection procedures.

Additional Information
Each fellowship includes an institutional payment and a subsistence allowance. The estimated institutional payment for an academic year 2015-2016 fellowship is $18,000 for a graduate student and $10,000 for an undergraduate student. The estimated institutional payment for a summer 2016 fellowship is $5,000 for graduate and undergraduate students.

The estimated subsistence allowance for an academic year 2015-2016 fellowship is $15,000 for a graduate student and $5,000 for an undergraduate student. The subsistence allowance for a summer 2016 fellowship is $2,500 for graduate and undergraduate students.

Armenian Language Winter School, from Dec 02, 2018 to Dec 22, 2018 (3 weeks)

This Armenian language 3 weeks school is designed for students, at least 18 years-old, who want to make well-grounded progress in their knowledge of the Eastern Armenian language, deepen their knowledge of Armenian grammar, colloquial speech and literary language. It offers an intensive Armenian language course spanning 60 hours, divided into 15 days of instruction and focusing on grammar, reading, speaking, and writing.

Persian Language Summer School, from Jul 07, 2019 to Aug 17, 2019 (6 weeks)

Our courses are open to anyone with upper elementary (knowledge of alphabet, some reading and knowledge of basic grammar concepts) or intermediate knowledge of the Persian language. The lectures are organized with the academic interests of the participants in mind to ensure that BA, MA, PhD students as well as post-docs and professors who work in Iranian Studies and relevant fields can benefit from it.

Persian Language Summer School, from Jul 07, 2019 to Jul 27, 2019 (3 weeks)
