Reading: This BBC Persian article discusses the Yezidis and their religion, which is rich in elements from Christianity, Islam, and Zoroastrianism, and also describes some of their religious practices and beliefs.
Listening: For today’s listening section, we have a video report from Iran International discussing the situation in Iraq after the defeat of ISIS.
Additionally, students may explore two documentaries from BBC Persian: one about the difficult choice faced by Yezidi women who were formerly captured by ISIS when returning to their community, and another about the Yezidis living in Georgia, highlighting their dance, music, beliefs, and customs.
Subject of Conversation: Humanitarian crises and the response of the civilized world (بحرانهای انسانی و واکنش جهان متمدن)
In this discussion, students will reflect on humanitarian crises, using the recent experiences of the Yezidi community as a starting point. They will explore the role of the international community in responding to atrocities such as genocide, forced migration, and cultural destruction. Students will be encouraged to use vocabulary from the day’s reading and listening materials to express their opinions, analyze the effectiveness of global responses, and discuss possible solutions. The goal is to practice speaking about sensitive and complex global issues in Persian, while developing fluency and respectful dialogue skills.
Homework: To be determined.
