Learn Armenian Through The Literature Online Course For Kids

Armenian School of Languages and Cultures - ASPIRANTUM is organizing the “Learn Armenian through the literature” online course for kids. This Armenian language school is designed for participants who want to make well-grounded progress in their knowledge of the Armenian language, deepen their knowledge of Armenian literature, the literary and the colloquial language.

The course will last for 10 weeks, 2-3 hours each week (1-1.5 hour on Saturday and 1-1.5 hour on Sunday).

This online course will start on January 16, 2021 and will last till March 21, 2021.

This course will be fully conducted in Eastern Armenian language. All materials will be in Eastern Armenian. The participants of the “Learn Armenian through the literature” online course for kids will be required to have at least an intermediate level of listening comprehension of Armenian. The knowledge of Armenian alphabet, writing and reading skills in Armenian are also required. The participant kids of this course will ideally be 7 to 13 years old. 

The “Learn Armenian through the literature” online course will help the participants to master skills in Armenian language through the  literature, particularly in reading and interpreting Armenian poetry of the 20th century, deepen their knowledge of the Armenian language, learn the various meanings of Armenian words and synonyms.

The 10 weeks “Learn Armenian through the literature” online course offers 20-30 hours of Armenian language classes during 20 days of teaching (Saturday and Sunday each week). Every day of the classes the participants will receive Armenian language instruction through the Armenian literature for 1 - 1.5 hour. Every day the class will start with a discussion of the homework. Following this, the class will read, interpret and decipher one or several poems by Armenian authors. Each day's class will end with discussion and questions.

During the 10 weeks students will read and listen not only Armenian poems for kids, but also masterpiece poems of prominent Armenian authors such as Hovhannes Tumanyan, Hovhannes Shiraz, Avetik Isahakyan, Silva Kaputikyan, Hamo Sahyan, etc.

We are planning to start the online classes at 9 PM Yerevan time. This time was chosen in order to accommodate students from both European and American countries.  

Each day will be divided into the following sections:

First 20-30 minutes - Discussion of homework
Second 20-30 minutes - Reading and listening a poem
Third 20-30 minutes - Discussing the poem

During the “Learn Armenian through the literature” classes, the following components will be covered every day to foster the Armenian language knowledge of the participants:

Vocabulary: During the 10-week course it is anticipated that the participants will learn around 200 or more Armenian words that will facilitate their further study of Armenian.
Listening: The classes are scheduled in a way so that each day participants will also listen to audio recordings, to each other and the instructor.
Speaking: Every day the classes will push the students to exercise their speaking abilities through discussions, conversations and role-plays about various stories of the poems learned.
Reading: Every day, students will read and discuss the poems of Armenian authors. The corpus of texts to be read and discussed during the classes will include various topics, from nature and family till motherland and patriotism.

This Armenian language school is designed for participants who want to make well-grounded progress in their knowledge of the Armenian language, deepen their knowledge of Armenian literature and the literary language.

The “Learn Armenian through the literature” online course will have 1 group of up to 12 participants. The participants must have at least an intermediate level of Armenian knowledge before starting this course with ASPIRANTUM.

Each participant of the online school may find sources of financial aid from their own School/Community or other relevant foundations.

Letter of Invitation

If necessary, ASPIRANTUM will provide applicants with an official letter to support scholarship applications.

Communication medium: The online course will be organized through Zoom and google classroom.
