Day 2 - Industry

On this day, we will focus more on industry-related topics, particularly the structure of Iran’s industrial sector and the role of the oil industry. The class will begin with a reading on the development of Iran’s industry over the past three decades, followed by listening materials on the history and current state of the oil sector. The class materials and the following discussion will help students expand their knowledge of terminology, improve comprehension and strengthen their ability to discuss major economic sectors in Persian.

Reading: Here students can find a research report by Donya-e Eqtesad that examines the reasons behind the inefficiency of Iran’s industrial structure, offering an analysis of three decades of deindustrialization in the country.

Listening: The first video for today is an 8-minute summary by Iran International covering the history of Iran’s oil industry over the past century. The second video, also from Iran International, presents recent economic news and analysis related to Iran’s oil sector and the broader international context surrounding it.

Subject of Conversation: Oil industry in Iran: what do we know about it? (صنعت نفت در ایران: در مورد آن چه می دانیم؟)

At the end of the class, a discussion will be conducted in Persian on the above-mentioned topic. Questions related to the history of the oil industry in Iran, its origins, the importance of the Iranian economy, and its vulnerabilities will be discussed in the classroom.
