9 weeks 2021 Classical Armenian (Grabar) Online School

In a period of webinars, I was not sure about learning a classical language online. I had a beginner’s level competence in Western Armenian to start with, but it was more than enough to build on with the help of ASPIRANTUM.

Towards the end of the course, I was able to understand and translate contemporary sources and had a basic knowledge of vocabulary to guide me. The organization of the program was quite efficient. Our wonderful teacher Ani arranged the lessons in such a way that we would learn effectively, practice the grammar rules and vocabulary often, and work on translations that were appropriate for each lesson. We learned common phrases and vocabulary, as well as common mistakes that might occur in contemporary sources. Throughout, Ani and the manager of the school, Khachik responded to our questions and needs immediately.

Our class was composed of students from different backgrounds with a variety of skills in Armenian. Ani was able to orchestrate it well and we, as classmates, did our best to support each other. As I am greatly interested in medieval Armenian architecture, I had already been planning to visit Armenia soon. This course convinced me even more that it is a great idea, not just academically, but also socially, to get to know the people and be acquainted with the culture that contributed to the architectural heritage of Armenia.
