Reading (and listening): Mathnawi-e Maanavi: 1, 2, 3
For the reading and listening section we have the beginning chapters of the Mathnawi-e Maanavi of Rumi which serve as an introduction to the book. It is interesting to note that unlike many other classical Persian books, Mathnawi does not start with the praise of the God and the Prophet.
Subject of Conversation - The mystic nature of the Mathnawi-e Maanavi of Rumi
It is well known that the Mathnawi-e Maanavi of Rumi is not a simple collection of various tales of merely didactic character. It has another, deeper and allegorical meaning, linking it to the genre of Sufi literature. In this section students will be required to do a little research on Sufi literature and discuss the particular mystic character of Mathnawi-e Maanavi.
