Reading: A blog post from an old webblog that belonged to a university student in “one of the northern cities of Iran”. The blog is entirely written in colloquial Persian (2007-2008). It is a great source for studying colloquial Persian.
Listening: Video 1: A video where a university student gives her brother a tour of the University of Tehran and talks the campus.
Video 2: A medical student shares some helpful tips and advice for starting a new semester.
Video 3: A student-led vlog tour of the Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
Video 4: Yet another student describing her daily university routine during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Subject of Conversation: Everyday situations (موقعیت های روزمره).
The students will be given time to engage in broader conversations centered around everyday life – routines, campus experiences, social interactions, and personal habits. Instead of short scripted dialogues, the focus will be on natural, extended exchanges where students share their own stories, respond to each other, and ask follow-up questions. The success of each student will be assessed based on their fluency, use of colloquial vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, pronunciation, and active participation in conversation.
Homework:
- Please carefully read today’s text and mark any parts you find difficult to understand in order to discuss them during the class.
- Continue compiling the list of “rules” of colloquial Persian. Add the patterns you’ve encountered today.
- Select an one-minute passage from one of the above-listed videos, write down what
the speaker says and convert it into literary Persian.
