The summer course on Persian language of ASPIRANTUM organized in Yerevan in July 2019 surpassed all my expectations! The Persian language summer school was not only very intense, informative and productive, but it was also an excellent event to expand the network of colleagues from different universities of the world, find new friends and travel to many wonderful sights of Armenia!
The Persian language classes performed by a highly qualified specialist Vardan Voskanyan were conducted in a very interesting manner and helped me to extensively expand my language proficiency, as well as improve my knowledge on cultural and historical aspects of Iranian studies, comparative Iranian linguistics, etymology and grammar. Two additional lectures provided by Professor Voskanyan enriched my knowledge in the field of Persian literature and Iranian languages. One of the lectures was an overview of Iranian language family, and the other one was an extensive interpretation and the translation of one of the fragments of Shahname.
During the cultural trips and excursions to historical monuments in Armenia, our instructor also served as an excellent guide explaining details about Armenian architecture, showcasing the Iranian, Hellenic and Islamic influences on Armenian monumental culture and architecture.
The Persian language instructor of the second group, Ani Beyt-Movsess, helped me to contact the Iranian Armenian writers, who were in Armenia at that time. Thanks to those contacts it will be much easier for me to write my MA thesis, and possibly a Ph.D. in the future.
The organizers of the school were very helpful and provided us with a lot of necessary and useful information long before the school started! Our weekend trips organized by ASPIRANTUM were an excellent medium to socialize with other participants and communicate with students from the Armenian language and second Persian language groups.
It is a pity that I managed to participate in the three week course only. I wish I could stay longer!
